New Jersey State Income Tax Withholding

New Jersey requires employers to withhold state income tax from employees' wages and remit the amounts withheld to the Division of Taxation.

All employers within the state that pay wages subject to withholding are required to withhold the state tax from the wages and salaries of both resident and nonresident employees

NEW JERSEY DISABILITY INSURANCE (SDI):

Maximum 2017 Taxable Earnings (Increased from $32,60 in 2016): $32,600

Employee 2017 Deduction Rate: 0.24%

Maximum 2017 Employee Deduction: $65.20

Standard FY 2017 Tax Rates: 0.1 - 0.75%

New Employer FY 2017 Rate: 0.50%

All others are experience rated with a wage limit of $31,500 for 2014 and $32,000 for 2015

Employee rate - 0.38% on $31,500 for 2014 and 0.25% on $32,000 for 2015


New Jersey Family Leave Insurance (FLI):

Employee rate - .1% up to wage base of $31,500 for 2014 and 0.09% up to wage base of $32,000 for 2015

Termination Pay - Terminated/Quit - next regular payday.


New Jersey New Hire Reporting:

Employers must report hiring, rehiring, and return to work within 15 days if through electronic media, otherwise 20 days on Form W-4 (Employees Withholding Allowance Certificate) to:
